ARLINGTON, Texas – Robert Voltmann, CEO of the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association, today released the following statement regarding the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection’s investigation into two New York City used car dealerships.

DCWP alleges JF Motors engaged in deceptive and unlawful trade practices in a case to be heard by the city’s Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings. DCWP alleges JF Motors marketed vehicles as NIADA Certified Pre-Owned but did not conduct the required inspection, uphold the warranty or provide vehicle history reports as specified by the NIADA CPO program.

“The National Independent Automobile Dealers Association does not condone illegal or unethical practices,” Voltmann said. “We continually strive to strengthen the integrity of our industry-leading CPO program through enhanced technology and training.

“The all-new NIADA CPO 3.0 program will guard against fraudulent and deceptive practices through a digital inspection process and will require participating dealers to complete training and acknowledge NIADA’s Code of Ethics.”

With the reworked program, NIADA and its board of directors are helping association members better meet the needs of their customers. The improvements include a technologically advanced platform that provides consumers multiple layers of protection against fraud.

The modernized NIADA CPO program uses multi-level vetting to assure car buyers that the vehicles meet certified standards. It includes tighter standards for vehicles to earn the certified designation, while allowing older, higher-mileage units to qualify for limited coverage in the newly created verified pre-owned category.

The updated program also employs the latest technology to upgrade the vehicle inspection to a tamper-proof 200-point digital process.
